Unreal Tournament III is very similar to the previous versions among the series when it comes to its multiplayer nature. Game mode includes Warfare mode which is a large-scale mode, Death Match mode and Capture the Flag mode. It also has a general single-player offline game that includes a detailed history that advances from the simplest tournament ladder enabling every team members to have an individual personality of their own.

It also has a one on one game type that typically lasts five minutes within an infinite round. The Warfare mode which is known as Conquest mode in its previous versions is a combination of Assault and Onslaught modes from the previous Unreal series. Although basic rules of the game resembles those of Onslaught, there were some minor innovations in Warfare mode like unlinked nodes that can be able to be captured, and the countdown nodes which can trigger specific events as well as creating a vehicle after having been captured and protected for a specified amount of time that which is helpful to the team who captured it, and it also added the presence of Orb, an event helpful in an instantaneous capture and defending of nodes.

Vehicle Capture the Flag is another innovation which combines Capture the Flag mode together with the vehicles. These vehicles were originally a map element. Unlike the previous Unreal Tournament, this game has no Invasion mode, no Mutant, Bombing Run, Domination, Onslaught, Last Man Standing, Assault and Double Domination modes.

Vehicles emanated from two divisions, they were the Axon vehicles that were manufactured by Axon Corporation and the Necris vehicles, made by the said company also. Vehicles coming from the Axon group were just a replica of the previous Unreal Tournament 2004 however some of them have visible changes in the game play. In addition to these changes, each player is assigned with their personal hoverboard, a device similar to the skate board that enables the player to travel huge maps and can also be towed by their co-team’s vehicle by grappling unto it. The dilemma for this equipment aside from its vulnerability to attacks, that even a minor hit can make the player knocked off the board and can cause apparent damage to him/her like immobility or paralysis for more than a few seconds is the inability of the player in using any kind of weapon at the time he/she is on board.

Manta is one of the vehicles included in the returning Axon vehicles. It is a high speed hovercraft that became more maneuverable in this new Unreal Tournament III, the Scorpion, an assault buggy which despite of its considerably light classification is remodeled to carry mortars, front foldable blades and an option to acquire top speeds to be able to render kamikaze against a target, the Raptor which is an unbeatable air dogfighter, the Cicada, a vehicle used for air support, Hellbender, now with a reduced crew due to some changes in the operation of the air mine gun that is now under the control of the driver, increasing the efficiency of this armored jeep, an improved Hellfire SPMA or a distant bombardment cannon, the Goliath battle tank, an energy shielded support tank for infantry called Paladin and the Leviathan, a heavy artillery platform. Its counterpart Necris has Necris Viper, Nemesis, Dark Walker, Fury, Nightshade and the Scavenger, all with its corresponding strengths that can offer a good resistance to those ot the Axon’s.

Unreal Tournament’s team includes the Necris, “The Corrupt”, Iron Guard, Iron Skull, Ronin and Thunder Crash.
