Far Cry 2 is set on a war-torn and anarchy state located in Central Africa. The Jackal is the target of the player. Its mission is to spot and assassinate this notorious arms trader called The Jackal. Locating the target is not an easy task and will take a lengthy and grueling journey.

It is an open-ended game wherein the player has the option to ally to anyone that he sees fit to accomplish the mission. The player is allowed to undertake the mission on his own perspective, giving him the freedom to control his own game. There are many vehicles to choose from, enabling the player to travel a little bit comfortable in locating his target. The hunting mission includes real-time head-on assaults as well as covert infiltrations. The game employs a sprawling landscape instead of maps that enables the player to experience all kinds of African terrain ranging from jungle to savannah.

The deeds of the player have a real-time and long time environmental effect. Thus, exploding a pipeline that brought water supply to the neighboring area will render the area flooded and will surely affect the following mission to be undertaken in that very area that was flooded because of his actions. The player’s enemies are diverse human mercenaries but without the presence of sci-fi creatures featured in the previous version. Other features not included in this game are the feral abilities of the player that was previously featured on its predecessor, the Far Cry Instincts. Weather conditions and time elements were also introduced in real-time like day and night cycle, as well as the extreme weather conditions like storms and aggressively strong winds. Artificial Intelligence is also affected by the ensuing time of day.

Large collection of real life weapons were also introduced and can be accessed by the player and these includes sniper rifles, RPG’s, assault rifles, light machine gun, etc.

Many realistic features were attributes of this new version of Far Cry. One of these is the ability of the player to hold the map which displays all the strategic locations as well as other pertinent interest points. There is also the presence of an avatar that warns or pats the player down when engaged in a heavy artillery fire. They have the ability to distract as well as make the enemies aware of the player’s existence.

Tagging of important objects such as sniper towers, buildings, ammo pick ups and cars, to be able to be easily located on the player’s map is also featured in this game. Not only this, the danger of malaria is lurking that if the player has contacted it, he must deal with the disease in real time by taking the required medicine at a span of 30-40 minutes. After running out of medicine, the player will find a way to acquire more supplies.

Jack Carver who is the central character of the previous game is absent here in Far Cry 2.
