EA Redwood Shores is the developer of this third-person, horror-action themed game of survival called Dead Space. It is currently playable on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 as well as Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Engineer Isaac Clarke is the character that a player assumes in the game. Engineer Clarke is set to fight “Corruption”, a polymorphic and virus-resembling alien invasion that eventually turns its human victims into a monstrous alien ogre called the “Necromorph”. This happens on board an incapacitated interstellar mining spacecraft. The Necromorphs were inside the mining ship wherein Isaac Clarke is trying to penetrate battling the creatures there to stop them from their invasion. One of the dreadful powers of these grotesque aliens is their capacity to revitalize the bodies of the dead and then turns them into monsters in addition to the fact that these monsters don’t readily die in a gunshot wound but their death depends on the intensity or the fatality of the wound. These creatures can also grow new limbs and in order to fight this characteristic of the Necromorphs, a special tactic called strategic dismemberment must be used by Isaac Clarke in order to stop them from reviving their health through regenerating. This is a must-play game for those who love gore-related games.

The game is set in the future, 26th century. The story can be seen revolving on Isaac Clarke only. Clarke is a space engineer employed under C.E.C or the Concordance Extraction Corporation, the operator of many huge inter-galactic mining ships all throughout the galaxy. Clarke’s quest began when a Planet-Cracker class mining ship USG Ishimura sent a distress call to C.E.C. where Clarke is working. USG Ishimura is bound to “destroy” planets to be able to mine precious ores. Together with four C.E.C colleagues, they boarded USG Kellion to perform a rendezvous and rescue mission in orbit. Assuming only a mechanical problem, the USG Kellion crew set out on the adventure of their lives.

Right after landing on USG Ishimura deck, USG Kellion’s crew received hostile attacks from the Necromorphs. The attacks kept Clarke isolated from his team. The game keeps Clarke busy from repairing damaged Ishimura while constantly fighting the monstrous creatures.

The spacecrafts involved in this game includes USG Ishimura, where the main setting of the game happens, USG Kellion, the one used by Clarke and his colleagues to get on to Ishimura far out on space, USM Valor, the ill-stricken military vessel who crashed on the Ishimura itself after being overrun by the Necromorphs and the USG Ishimura Executive Shuttle, which is built for exclusive use of the Ishimura’s high-ranking officials and later used by Clarke in order to reach Aegis 7 colony.

Characters of the game were Isaac Clarke, a systems engineer, Kendra Daniels, part of the Ishimura team and is a technology expert, Zach Hammond, travels with Clarke on the USG Kellion trip to Ishimura. Hammond is a senior security officer. Other characters were Drs. Chalus Mercer and Terence Kyne, where the former is the culprit behind the mass suicide of the Ishimura crew while the latter is one of the surviving Ishimura crew who solicited a help from Kellion’s crew. Nicole Brennan a medical specialist assigned to Ishimura and is Clarke’s ex-girlfriend. Remaining characters were Jacob Temple, Elizabeth Cross, Corporal Chen and Captain Benjamin Matthius.

The Necromorphs had their own characters as well. They were the Slasher, Lurker, Infector, Brute, Pregnant, Swarm, Leaper, Exploder, Divider, Twitcher, Wheezer, Tentacle, Guardian, Hunter, The Leviathan, The Slug and the Hive Mind, each has its own capability, power and evil mind.
