Conflict: Denied Ops is the fifth game in the Conflict games series. It was initially going to be named Crossfire, but this was later changed.

Having been the first in the series to be released on PS3 and Xbox 360 (in February 2008), it was then released on PC and Game Tap on March 20, 2008. It’s a game played from a first person perspective in contrast to the previous four Conflict games which had third person viewpoint player game. Additionally, this game does not feature the four main characters from the previous games in the series.

Instead, the game features two CIA operators named Lincoln Graves and Reggie Lang, The characters are diametrically opposite in style - the former likes to be quiet and stealthy whereas the latter likes it loud and noisy. They also differ completely in personality - Lang is strong and serious where Graves is quiet and cautious.

In the Co-Op mode, the players can only control their own agent and can use only their respective weapons, while in Single Player mode they can switch between Lang and Graves. The different levels to be crossed take the player through Africa, Siberia and South America and the player can replenish their explosives only at the re-supply boxes available at points throughout each. However one can use unlimited firearms.

The plot is based during a fictional war which entails a Venezuelan Conflict. General Ramirez is methodically plotting to take over his country, using his associates in the Ramirez regime. Having seized an oil refinery he threatens the USA, promising to deploy nuclear weapons if they continue to interfere in his country’s affairs. That’s when the two players Lincoln and Reggie come in to the picture.

Lincoln Graves is a former Delta force member and expert sniper. Considered to be highly disciplined, he is not the type to get in to small talk with anyone. His partner died in Afghanistan – viewed by Graves as an ‘Occupational hazard’. Lincoln does not like Reggie’s attitude and indiscipline, preferring to do a professional job, and does not want to share his dark past with any of the members of the Delta force or Reggie. Reggie is considered to be more like a gangster, using less orthodox tactics and making numerous jokes at Graves’ expense.

The two agents are sent to the ruins of the monastery of Santa Cecilia to get important data on the connections of Ramirez and partners. Having extracted through its commander (Codename: King Six), they encounter a number of different conflicts apparently connected to Ramirez. Finally they track down Ramirez and arrest him.
